Guangzhou is also known as "Rice City11 and“City of Rams” or "City of the Five Rams" which traces its origin back to a beautifully moving story of legend. Legend has it that more than 3.000 years ago, Guangzhou was desolate everywhere until five immortals came there on five rams carrying grain ears. They introduced rice cultivation to the area, and wished Guangzhou no famine. Since then, this place has flourished.
Museum of the Mausoleum of the Nanyue King
In 214 BCt the Qin Dynasty established a city in Guangzhou after unifying the Lingnan region, a geographic area that covers the modern Chinese provinces of Guangdong, Guangxi, and Hainan . Later on, Nanyue was established in 204 BC at the collapse of the Qin dynasty by Zhao Tuo. In 196 BC, Nanyue became the vassal state of the Han Dynasty, and its palace ruins are located in the Museum of the Mausoleum of the Nanyue King in Yuexiu District.
