The former site of Guangzhou Commune was originally the residence of Guangzhou Public Security Bureau during the National Government period. On December 11, 1927, Communists Zhang Tailei, Ye Ting, Yun Daiying, Ye Jianying, Zhou Wenyong, Nie Rongzhen, etc. launched the Guangzhou Uprising. The main force of the insurrectionary army - the teaching regiment of the No. 4 Army, and the workers’ red guards and the death squad raided and captured this important stronghold. After that, Zhang Tailei, the commander of the insurrectionary army, announced the establishment of Guangzhou Soviet Government, held the first conference of the Soviet Government, and declared the list of the Soviet Government’s political principles and leaders. Su Zhaozheng was the Chairman of the Soviet Government, and Ye Ting was the Commander-in-chief of the Red Army of Workers and Peasants; the Soviet Declaration of Guangzhou and other documents were promulgated. Guangzhou Soviet Government was the first urban red government established by the Communist Party of China, and the first urban red government in the Eastern national liberation movement. It was known as the “Paris Commune in the East”.
