Tuanyida (the First National Congress of the Socialist Youth League of China) Square is the first memorial square in Guangdong Province themed by the history and culture of the Communist Youth League of China. It is adjacent to the East Garden, a famous garden in Guangzhou dating back to the late Qing Dynasty. From May 5 to 10, 1922, the first National Congress of the Socialist Youth League was held in the outdoor square of the East Garden. Chen Duxiu, leader of the Communist Party of China, and Darin, representative of the Communist Youth International, gave speeches at the congress. The congress approved the guiding principle and constitution of the Socialist Youth League and elected the first Central Executive Committee. Shi Cuntong was elected as the first secretary of the Central Committee. This congress enabled the Socialist Youth League of China to achieve ideological and organizational unity and to become a nationally advanced youth organization with a clear guiding principle.
